This past weekend over 4700 sites across the United States joined together to host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This event provides citizens across the country with the opportunity to properly dispose of old and unwanted medications. Properly disposing of these medications protects the environment, and most of all, people. The abuse of medicine has increased in recent years, due largely to the very easy access.
In Boone County, MO over 64,000 pills were collected. This brings our total for the last year to 150,000. You can read more about the take back event here: http://www.columbiamissourian.com/stories/2011/05/02/boone-county-holds-third-presciption-drug-takeback-day/
